De Stress

Mobile App for mindfulness - UI/UX Case Study Dec '21

Overview

When it comes to mental health all of us have faltered at some point or the other, be it spreading awareness, or acknowledging the toll it can take on one. Help is not available to us at all points in time. Many of us are aware that meditation helps, but don't know where to start. Difficult social norms and lack of communication also act as a major cause of depression and other psychological issues. Many people out there struggle in opening up out of fear of being misjudged.

Destress is a mindfulness app with the goal of overall psychological assistance. Starting from guided meditation to ambient music and ASMR recommendations, it has a large variety of audio catering to the user's immediate needs. An additional anonymous chatting feature helps people to vent and communicate with others without having to worry about their identity. Keep track of your mental health with the mood tracker. Set daily goals and reminders to maintain consistency and form a mental healthcare habit.

My Role

This is one of my personal projects, and I took on the role of UI/UX designer.

Research

My research for this project started with an online survey of people in the age range of 15-40. It included questions about their mental health in the present, and history if any. I also asked them about their meditation and mental healthcare routine, along with the effects of social interaction or its lack during the pandemic. The results of this survey were as follows.

Reflection

This was my first UX Design project wherein I also did the research and worked on the information architecture. I learned a lot about the 'hows' and 'whys' of user experience research via this project.
As for the takeaways, I should've done a more widespread survey for a better result. I could have also focussed on integrating a 'talk to a psychiatrist' feature seeing as many people would still need it. I plan to keep working on these aspects in the future.
